KLONG SAEN SAEB, BKK, THAILAND
Klong Saen Saeb was
excavated in 1837 in the reign of King Rama III starting from Hua Mak to Bang
Khanak, Chachoengsao province, with the total length of 54 km. At that time,
the purpose of this khlong was to help military transportation and food
provision for the Siam - Khmer war and Annum war. It connects to Khlong
Mahanak on the west and Khlong Bang Nam Prieo on the east to form the major connection
channel between the Chao Phraya River and Nakon Nayok river. Klong Saen Saeb is
the major khlong on the east bank of the Chao Phraya river serving many tens of
thousands commuters as an alternative route of transportation to reach the core
business areas of Bangkok easily and quickly without being stuck in traffic. Khlong
Saen Saeb become polluted because many people use this Khlong for
transportation, they throw the trash into this Khlong. Along Khlong Saen Saeb,
there are lots of houses so the local people use water in this Khlong to wash
their clothes and a powdered detergent flow into the Khlong and make water
polluted.
